短路保護
當plc輸出設(shè)備短路時，為了避免PLC內(nèi)部輸出元件損壞，應(yīng)該在PLC外部輸出回路中裝上熔斷器，進行短路保護。好在每個負載的回路中都裝上熔斷器。
互鎖與聯(lián)鎖措施
除在程序中保證電路的互鎖關(guān)系，PLC外部接線中還應(yīng)該采取硬件的互鎖措施，以確保可靠地運行，如電動機正、反轉(zhuǎn)控制，要利用器KM1、KM2常閉觸點在PLC外部進行互鎖。在不同電機或電器之間有聯(lián)鎖要求時，好也在PLC外部進行硬件聯(lián)鎖。采用PLC外部的硬件進行互鎖與聯(lián)鎖，這是PLC控制中常用的做法。
失壓保護與緊急停車措施
PLC外部負載的供電線路應(yīng)具有失壓保護措施，當臨時停電再恢復供電時，不按下“啟動”按鈕PLC的外部負載就不能自行啟動。這種接線的另一個作用是，當特殊情況下需要緊急停機時，按下“停止”按鈕就可以切斷負載電源，而與PLC毫無關(guān)系。

開關(guān)量輸入抖動
在實際應(yīng)用中，有些開關(guān)輸入接通時，由于外界的而出現(xiàn)時通時斷的“抖動”現(xiàn)象。這種現(xiàn)象在繼電器中由于繼電器的電磁慣性一般不會造成什么影響，但在PLC中，由于PLC掃描工作的速度快，掃描周期比實際繼電器的時間短得多，所以抖動就可能被PLC檢測到，從而造成錯誤的結(jié)果。因此，必須對某些“抖動”進行處理，以保證正常工作。
故障的檢測與診斷
PLC的可靠性很高且本身有很完善的自診斷功能，如果PLC出現(xiàn)故障，借助自診斷程序可以方便地找到故障的原因，排除后就可以恢復正常工作。
大量的工程實踐表明，PLC外部輸入、輸出設(shè)備的故障率遠遠高于PLC本身的故障率，而這些設(shè)備出現(xiàn)故障后，PLC一般覺察不出來，可能使故障擴大，直至強電保護裝置后才停機，有時甚至會造成設(shè)備和人身事故。停機后，查找故障也要花費很多時間。為了及時發(fā)現(xiàn)故障，在沒有釀成事故之前使PLC自動停機和，也為了方便查找故障，效率，可用PLC程序?qū)崿F(xiàn)故障的自診斷和自處理。
