有源 RS 485 端接電阻用來終接總線段。電源與站無關。終端電阻是單獨由其它I/O部件持久地供電或用上游I/O引出的電壓。在終接總線系統(tǒng)時，可以有選擇地耦合和去耦合站（例如 ET 200S），而不會引起故障。
有源 RS 485 終端元件用于對 PROFIBUS 實施終接，從而確保 RS 485 信號的規(guī)定水平并抑制線路反射。由于是單獨運行，與現(xiàn)場設備無關，因此可以無反應地從總線中斷開。
