EXAMPLE 1: A factory in Dagang Town, Songjiang District, Shanghai discharged wastewater to the nearby river without treatment or required permits. This was common practice by many of the factories in Dagang and a critical environmental concern. We recommended them to build a wastewater treatment facility and apply for the permits. After extensive discussions, the local government approved to connect them to the town sewage treatment system. This not only improved our factory, but allowed all nearby factories to take advantage as well. The entire community benefited from the combined effort.

EXAMPLE 2: A factory, in the developing area of the remote city of Huizhou in Guangdong Province, recently relocated and had little procedures established in regards to EHS, fire, or labor management. Subsequently, the NBCUniversal audit had 21 findings identified. The local authorities were inexperienced in both determining and issuing the required permits. The NBCUniversal and URS support teams were able to help the factory and local authorities navigate the governmental programs. Now the authorities are better capable to support the local business community and help ensure worker and environmental safety.

EXAMPLE 3: For a few years NBCUniversal was trying to source a particular product that is difficult to perfect and requires sophisticated manufacturing techniques. We had audited a few factories but none were able to complete an audit for various reasons. Finally we found a partner that was willing and able to make the necessary adjustments and become an approved supplier for NBCU. Because of their commitment to our program we are able to have a strong mutually beneficial business relationship and finally add a key item to our product assortment.
